Smart home, EV & solar-ready
Thinking about an electric car, solar panels or smart lighting? Here's how to get your home's wiring ready, in plain English.
π EV charger ready
Most home EV chargers need their own dedicated circuit from the switchboard. Single-phase wallboxes commonly charge at up to about 7 kW, much faster than a standard power point. Before you buy a charger, check your switchboard capacity, the cable run to your parking spot and whether load management is needed. Ask Patrick to assess your home.
βοΈ Solar & battery ready
Solar and battery systems are designed and installed by accredited installers. Your switchboard is often what holds a project up. Old boards may need upgrading first, with room for new breakers, isolators and RCD protection. Getting this done early avoids delays on installation day.
π‘ Smart lighting & switches
Smart switches, dimmers and sensors let you control lights from your phone or on a schedule. Some need a neutral wire at the switch, which older homes may not have, so it's worth checking before you buy.
π Future-proof your reno
Renovating? Run spare conduit, add data points and size circuits for induction cooking, ducted aircon and an EV charger now. It's far cheaper while the walls are open.
